On an unusual (for us) Thursday race day, the BGXC team went down to Lehigh University to run in the Paul Short Invitational. On a gorgeous day, Blair ran very well, finishing 17th out of 32 teams with a number of season and career PRs.
The event timed us at each of the mile marks, and, notably, Blair athletes passed more runners than any other team, with freshman Sofia Ghoul (our first finisher) passing 76 runners and freshman Grace Cui (Blair 2nd runner) passing 73. We would like to think that this means we are running a smart, strong race, and we will build on this as we look to continue to improve throughout the rest of the year.
Following our two freshman were trio of senior runners rounding out our top five for the day: Ashley Hur, Jessica Neary, and Kenzie Quiggley. In all, our top five finished in a tight pack separated by only 1:10, which bodes well for team success.
We then had six additional runners finish impressively with either season or career PRs: Senior Carolina O'Malley dropped over 3 minutes, sophomore Sophia Lee lowered her season-best time by over a minute, sophomore Ira Tyagi ran a career-best time, junior Aanya Hemady lopped a minute off her previous best, sophomore Maddie Nicholson improved by nearly a minute, and freshman Bella Simovski was 30 seconds faster than her previous best,
Overall it was a great day, and we look forward to getting back at it on Saturday, October 11 at Hun when we should be back to full strength.
