The Blair girls’ cross country opened the season with an unscored victory over The Pennington School in Blairstown, New Jersey. Pennington ran fewer than the requisite five needed to constitute an official race, but despite the low stakes the Bucs ran well over Blair’s challenging course. Marty Dericks '22, Corrine Wilm '21, Jessica Wilm '21 and newcomer Lily Starrs '21 ran in a tight pack over the first two loops, after which Marty pulled away to victory. Corrine, Lily and Jessica finished in that order behind her, followed by captain Elise Sigety '20 in fifth place. Captain Kendra Payne '20 was sixth, and freshman Betsy Kim '23 secured the final varsity spot.
The overall depth of the team was manifested in the success of the junior varsity, led by captain Elizabeth Montfort '20. She, Lucy Clayton '21, newcomer Ava Gamble '21 and freshmen Hannah Reed '23 and Maggie Hayes '23 ran tough and look forward to running next weekend at the Jerry Hart Invitational at Peddie.
