It was an exciting weekend for the indoor track team as they traveled to Meercersburg to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) championship.
Several athletes displayed remarkable performances, including Isaac Greene ’24, who was named the MAPL Athlete of the Meet, claiming first place in both the 800-meter and 1600-meter race. Mayan Muchugia ’26 secured fourth place in the 200-meter sprint and sixth place in the long jump. Also competing in the long jump, Jaiveer Chauhan ’26 finished fifth and placed fourth in the triple jump. Additionally, Oli Umeukeje ’27 achieved a personal best in the shot put event. The boys’ 4x400 relay team put on a strong performance, clinching third place.
Petra Taylor ’24 secured second place in the 55-meter race and dominated the 200-meter event with a first place finish. Maia Frank ’26 placed second in the 3200 meter with a new personal record, breaking the school record in the process. She also secured sixth place in the 1600-meter race. Morgan Frame ’24 showcased her speed in the 400-meter race, earning a fifth place finish. The girls’ 4x400 relay, which consisted of Morgan, Petra, Sasha Gershman ’25, and Maggie Antosek ’25, had an impressive victory over Lawrenceville at the finish line.
Coach Edward Thornton commented, “Our team exemplified the essence of dedication, teamwork and perseverance. We saw exceptional performances at MAPLs, and it reflects the countless hours of hard work and commitment this team has put into their training. Our goal is to carry this momentum forward as we prepare for the state meet.”
The track team’s next challenge awaits on Saturday, February 24, as they gear up to compete in the state championships.
