Field Hockey

Varsity

Overview

Blair’s varsity field hockey team is a strong group of women committed to hard work, success and, above all, sportsmanship. The team is passionate about field hockey, about winning and about each other. Prospective players are encouraged to visit campus and attend a game or practice to see the team in action and witness its culture firsthand.

From September through November, Blair competes in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) and New Jersey prep “A” division, two highly competitive leagues, and plays a number of local high schools, as well. The season culminates annually on Peddie Day, when each of Blair’s fall athletic teams vies with arch-rival Peddie School for the coveted Kelley-Potter Cup.

Many Blair field hockey players have received all-league honors, and athletes have gone on to compete at the college level at schools including Bryn Mawr, Northwestern University, Colgate University, the University of Rochester, Kenyon College, William Smith College, Wellesley College, The University of Pennsylvania and Shenandoah University.

Meet the Coaches

About Coach O'Neil

Field Hockey

Head coach is a graduate of Wesleyan University and Middlebury College. She played field hockey and lacrosse during her undergraduate years at Wesleyan, and she has worked with Blair’s field hockey program since joining the faculty in 2005. Ms. O'Neil was appointed varsity head coach in 2014.

Ms. O’Neil’s coaching philosophy is straightforward: Self-discipline, hard work and hustle set the foundation for a player’s individual success and, in turn, for the team’s success. Her goal is to help each player reach her fullest potential through personal attention, constant communication and intense motivation. She strives to create a team of confident individuals who believe in themselves, trust each other and play for each other; ultimately, this is a team that will excel and persevere.

Coach O’Neil invites prospective players who aspire to be part of Blair’s great field hockey tradition to contact her via or cell phone at (845) 430-9130 with any questions they may have about the program.

About Coach Booth

Julia Booth attended Hamilton College and graduated in 2019, receiving an undergraduate degree in environmental studies and anthropology. She was the goaltender and captain of the field hockey team during her four years. In addition, Julia coached at field hockey summer camps and USA Future camps in Morrisville, NY.  Prior to Blair, she worked at the Taft School's summer school for two years teaching English. At Blair, she will be teaching biology and the assistant coach of the varsity field hockey team.

JV

Overview

Like Blair’s varsity field hockey team, the JV team prides itself on good sportsmanship and intense play. The team is passionate about field hockey, about winning and about each other.

From September to November, Blair competes in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) and New Jersey prep “A” division, two highly competitive leagues, and plays a number of local high schools, as well. The season culminates annually on Peddie Day, when each of Blair’s fall athletic teams vies against arch-rival Peddie School for the coveted Kelley-Potter Cup.

Meet the Coaches

Meet Coach Doldoorian

Math teacher Danyelle Doldoorian, an alumna of Trinity College, holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and educational studies. At Blair, she teaches AP calculus AB, pre-calculus and number theory courses, coaches girls’ basketball and field hockey, helps run Blair’s Healthy Relationships in the Community (HRC) activity and serves as a sophomore monitor. Danyelle gained basketball and field hockey coaching experience while serving as a camp director and coach for various programs over the last five years. Before beginning her Blair career, she worked as a teaching assistant and admission associate at Trinity College. Danyelle resides and serves dorm duty in Annie Hall.

Meet Coach Hoyer

Molly Hoyer joined Blair's faculty as an English teacher in 2018 after earning a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College in Comparative Literature, with a focus on French and Arabic language in North African literature. After starting as a novice on the rowing team in the fall of her first year, Molly went on to row for the next four years. She competed in the team's first varsity eight at each NCAA Division III championship, including the varsity eight that won the NCAA Division III championship in 2016. Molly teaches English 2 and 3, and in addition to coaching rowing, will be the assistant coach for the JV field hockey team in the fall; she lives in Ivy Hall, and serves dorm duty in Ivy and Locke.
