STATE PREP A CHAMPIONS

2022

Blair’s varsity field hockey team is a strong group of women committed to hard work, success and, above all, sportsmanship. The team is passionate about field hockey, about winning and about each other. Prospective players are encouraged to visit campus and attend a game or practice to see the team in action and witness its culture firsthand.

From September through November, Blair competes in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) and New Jersey prep “A” division, two highly competitive leagues, and plays a number of local high schools, as well. The season culminates annually on Peddie Day, when each of Blair’s fall athletic teams vies with arch-rival Peddie School for the coveted Kelley-Potter Cup.

Many Blair field hockey players have received all-league honors, and athletes have gone on to compete at the college level at schools including Bryn Mawr, Northwestern University, Colgate University, the University of Rochester, Kenyon College, William Smith College, Wellesley College, University of Connecticut, University of Maryland, The University of Pennsylvania and Shenandoah University.

About Coach Lohr

Valerie Lohr will teach history and serve as head varsity field hockey coach; she joined our community with her husband, Corey, and daughter, Catie '28. The family relocated to Blairstown from San Antonio, Texas, where Valerie has been completing her doctor of education degree at Baylor University. Her other educational pursuits include working toward completing a master’s of arts in clinical mental health counseling at Southern New Hampshire University (expected 2026), earning her JD at the Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law and passing the Pennsylvania bar exam (2006), and graduating from Lehigh University with a BA in political science and history (2002). Over the course of her career, Valerie has coached a number of highly ranked field hockey and women’s lacrosse teams, most recently at St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio and Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. Since 2021, she has also served as region 9 and 10 coach manager of the Nexus Olympic Pathway for U.S. field hockey in Colorado Springs.

About Coach Chrobock-Palanca

Haley Chrobock-Palanca ’15 is a former Blair Academy field hockey player and team captain. She furthered her playing career at Wellesley College, where she would play from 2016 to 2019. During that time, Coach Chrobock was a three-time NFHCA DIII National Academic Squad member, three-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference, and NEWMAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week. She currently serves as the assistant varsity field hockey coach. Her husband, Chase Palanca ’15, is currently Assistant Dean of Admission, assistant wrestling coach and dorm head in Insley, where both Haley and Chase reside.

About Coach Doldoorian

Math teacher Danyelle Doldoorian holds a master’s degree in curriculum and teaching from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and educational studies from Trinity College. At Blair, she has taught a variety of courses ranging from precalculus to number theory and currently teaches Precalculus and Algebra 2 Honors BC while serving as the assistant varsity coach for field hockey and faculty co-advisor of the Healthy Relationships Committee. Prior to coming to Blair, Danyelle gained basketball and field hockey coaching experience while serving as a camp director and coach for various programs, and she worked as a teaching assistant and admission associate at Trinity College. Danyelle resides and serves dorm duty in Kathryn Hall.

Meet Coach Ehrenwerth

Megan Ehrenwerth was appointed in 2022 as a chemistry and head JV field hockey coach. Previously, she taught various levels of chemistry at The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Since 2011, Megan has worked at Hill, where she also serves as a dorm parent, advisor, varsity swim coach and JV field hockey coach. Prior to that, she was an adjunct professor at Lawrence Technological University, where she lectured and planned labs. A graduate of Haverford College in Pennsylvania, where she earned a BA in chemistry (2004), and of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where she obtained an MA in chemistry (2007).
