Thank you for your interest in Blair basketball. Over the past several years, we have become one of the premier girls' basketball programs in the country, and we are known for our unique combination of athletic and academic excellence.
A Premier Girls’ Basketball Program
On the court, we have won our league and state titles the last three years, during which time, we have had a McDonald’s All-American, four straight N.J. Prep players of the year, and ten Division I players. All this while playing one of the most competitive basketball schedules in the country.
The varsity girls' basketball team competes nationally, including in contests with Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) opponents (Peddie, Pennington, Lawrenceville, Hun, Hill and Mercersburg) and the country's top public and private high schools. The season culminates with the MAPL and NJISAA prep "A" tournaments. In 2019 and 2020, Blair placed second in the Insider Exposure Independent School National Championship in Mooresville, North Carolina.
We pride ourselves on our tough defense, our team play and our commitment to doing whatever it takes to succeed. We work on our individual skills a great deal, but we are committed to the idea that basketball is ultimately a team game. We value hustle plays, an unselfish commitment to the team, communication on and off the court, and toughness in how we approach our lives. We also believe that basketball should be fun and seek to maintain a sense of joy in the way we play.
We are about far more than basketball, however. Blair players are well-rounded young women who are constantly striving to improve themselves as students, as athletes and as people. They are leaders in the classroom; they are involved in serving their community; and they are good people who will end up making this world a better place.
Well-Rounded Student Athletes
Blair is not a basketball school, but one of the most rigorous academic institutions in the country. To succeed here, you must be committed to your academic work and you must be willing to respond positively to a close-knit community of similarly driven people from all over the world.
Therefore, we are looking to develop great basketball players but, more than that, great women who will be future leaders of this world. We are very proud of our school and our team. If you are someone who wants to be a part of something bigger than yourself, to push yourself to new heights, to win a lot of games and to have fun doing it, please contact Coach Gregory Rosnick at 908-362-6121 x2056
Meet the Coaches
Meet Coach Rosnick
Greg Rosnick joined Blair in 2022 as the assistant dean of admission and head girls' varsity basketball coach. Since 2017, Greg has served as assistant coach of women’s basketball at Columbia University in New York City. In addition to coaching and teaching physical education there, Greg has been deeply involved in the team’s recruiting efforts, helping to bring the best student athletes to Columbia in his role as international recruiting coordinator. His responsibilities also included strategy and analytics, scheduling and accountability efforts. Prior to Columbia, Greg served as assistant coach of men’s basketball at Colby College in Maine (2013-2017), Haverford College in Pennsylvania (2012-2013) and Belchertown High School in Massachusetts (2011-2012). Since earning his BA in political science at Haverford in 2009 and MA in teaching from Smith College in 2010, Greg has been active in basketball camps as well, most recently co-founding and directing DiverseCity from 2007 to 2017.

Recaps
The varsity girls' basketball traveled to the Perkiomen School this past Tuesday, and defeated the Panthers 76-30 in their season opener. Five Buccaneers were in double-digit scoring in the team victory.
Yesterday, the girls' varsity basketball celebrated senior night before their game against Hun. Dominating the court from the start of the game, the girls stayed strong through all four quarters. Blair earned a 88-40 victory over the Raiders.
Girls’ Varsity Basketball Named 2016 State & MAPL Champions
Less than a week after defeating Mercersburg Academy in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) tournament, the girls’ varsity basketball team won the N.J. prep “A” state championship with a 20-point victory over The Lawrenceville School. 2016 marked the sixth-consecutive year that Blair girls’ basketball has ended the season as MAPL and state champions. This latest victory was also the sixth-consecutive win for the lady Bucs, who ended the regular season with an exciting victory over New Jersey’s top-ranked team, Rutgers Prep.
Temi Fagbenle ’11 Drafted to WNBA
Temi Fagbenle ’11 was selected by the Minnesota Lynx in the 35th pick of the 2016 WNBA draft on April 14.
Temi will join the Lynx for the 2017 season, following the completion of her final collegiate basketball season at the University of Southern California, where she led the Trojans in nearly every statistical category this season while working toward her master’s degree. Prior to that, she played three seasons of basketball for Harvard University, where she broke a number of school records and earned several outstanding achievement awards for her skills on the court.
An Olympian, Temi represented Great Britain in the 2012 Summer Games in London. At Blair, she helped the Bucs earn three Mid-Atlantic Prep League titles and a state championship in her three seasons at the School. At the conclusion of her final season with the Bucs, Temi was recognized as a 2011 McDonald's All-American. Temi also played varsity tennis at Blair and starred in the School’s rendition of the musical The Drowsy Chaperone during her senior year.

Overview
Girls' Junior Varsity Basketball Program
The girls' JV basketball team prides itself on good sportsmanship, teamwork and having fun while developing fundamental basketball skills. Players at all levels are welcome to join. Our goal is to develop each player’s ability and understanding of the game as we work together as a team to become our collective best. We encourage one another on and off the court, and are committed to hard work and positive attitudes.
As a prep school in New Jersey, our girls' JV basketball team plays a competitive schedule against Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) rivals Hun, Peddie, Mercersburg, Lawrenceville and Hill as well as other independent schools and local public high schools. Competing in a 15-game schedule, the season concludes in the mid-February, right before Blair's Headmasters' Societies Games.
Inquire today or contact head coach Sharon Merrifield at merris@blair.edu to learn more about the JV girls' basketball team at our unique private school in New Jersey.
Meet the Coaches
Meet Coach Hadden
Kelly Hadden serves as the head JV girls' basketball coach. She joined Blair’s faculty in 2009 and was appointed science department chair in 2017. Having completed her undergraduate work in biology at The College of New Jersey in 1996, she worked for nearly 10 years as a research scientist at Purdue Pharmaceuticals. At Blair, Kelly has taught chemistry, biology, honors biology, AP biology, integrated science research and pharmaceutical science, a science elective she developed. She serves dorm duty in Flight Deck and lives off campus in Hardwick, New Jersey, with her husband, John, and their three children, John Jr. ’21, Makenna ’23 and Shane ’25.
Meet Coach Maguire
Mackenzie Maguire joined Blair in 2022 as an admission associate and head girls’ varsity lacrosse coach. Prior to working at Williams College as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach, Mackenzie earned her BS in business marketing with a minor in sports management from the University of Mary Washington in 2019. During her time as a student athlete, she served as a collegiate team captain, made four NCAA appearances and was named rookie of the year by various sports conferences. At Williams, Mackenzie worked as recruiting coordinator, a mentor for student athlete development, and as a coach on and off the field. Mackenzie’s previous professional experience includes working as a sales-and-marketing associate for Trilogy Lacrosse and as a trainee in GEICO’s management-development program for claims adjusters. Additionally, Mackenzie serves as the assistant girls' JV basketball coach.
