Girls' Squash
Varsity
Overview
Blair Academy's squash program was founded in 1993. Nearly 70 Blair students play organized squash each year, filling out competitive girls’ and boys’ varsity, junior varsity and thirds sides in the winter, as well as heavily subscribed off-season introductory and developmental programs in the spring and fall. We train and play on seven international courts in Tracy Hall. Blair is a perennial host of the New Jersey High School Championships.
Blair's girls squash team begins interscholastic competition in late November and continues through mid-February. Varsity and JV teams play a competitive schedule against other schools in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL), in addition to non-league teams. Our opponents include Lawrenceville, Hill, Mercersburg, Miss Porter's, Nichols School, St. Andrew's, Kent Place, Poly Prep and Pingry.
Blair seeks both experienced and inexperienced players who love the thrill of a game that combines the intellectual challenge of chess with the exhilaration of being pushed to your physical limits. Prospective students are invited to take time during their visit to see the courts and introduce themselves or contact director of Blair squash programs Jim Moore.
Meet the Coach
Meet Coach Moore
Jim Moore, director of Blair squash programs & head varsity coach, started the squash program in 1993, after having played squash for Cornell, coached at The Hill School and worked as an assistant pro at a club in McLean, Virginia.
Over the years, he has also served on the Junior Development Committee of U.S. Squash and as president of the Rochester (NY) Squash Racquets Association and played for the United States in the 2000 Lapham-Grant Trophy matches against Canada. Coach Moore currently serves on the board of the Northern New Jersey Squash Racquets Association and as a staff coach during the summers at Williams College's Squash & Beyond Camps. Off the court, he serves as Blair’s English department chair and teaches both English 1 and English AP literature.

Meet the Coach
Meet Coach Hanson
Fine arts teacher Robert Hanson earned a bachelor’s degree in art at Yale University (2002), where he walked on to the track team to throw javelin, hammer, and discus. Out of his four years as a team member, he was able to place 3rd in discus and javelin against Harvard his senior year. In 2019, he coached middle school throwers at a Delbarton track camp in New Jersey. In high school, he was a team captain at the Cate School in California and broke the school record in discus. He serves as an assistant winter and spring track and field coach, as well as the girls' JV squash coach.
