3D Art

In addition to being a phenomenal academic and athletic powerhouse, Blair is forward thinking and cultivates creativity in its students. Before coming to Blair, I had zero artistic ability. I didn't even like the feel of clay in my hands. But taking ceramics 1 as a sophomore intrigued and fascinated me; I realized the beauty I could create from clay.

Courses in ceramics, sculpture, architecture and design thinking give Blair students hands-on opportunities to explore three-dimensional fine art and express themselves through a variety of media. Beginner to advanced ceramicists and sculptors hone a variety of techniques as they work with clay, plaster, paper, wire, 3D printers and more. Architecture students bring their designs to life with models and full-scale builds. In functional design, students research and brainstorm products aimed at solving real-world problems, with the goal of creating an aesthetically considered, 3D prototype of their product solution.

Blair’s 3D fine artists—and any member of the School community wishing to explore these disciplines—have the opportunity to work in the Chiang-Elghanayan Center for Innovation and Collaboration offering a well-equipped, centrally located maker space, as well as a ceramics studio. The community regularly comes together to admire student 3D artwork in progress in the maker spaces, and in curated exhibits in The Black Canteen and at the annual Student Art Show in The Romano Gallery.
