Room Needs

Bedding

  • Standard twin sheets–2 sets
  • Blanket/comforter
  • Pillow
  • Foam mattress topper or standard twin mattress pad

Room/Storage 

  • Clothes hangers
  • Laundry supplies including a bag or basket, detergent, dryer sheets
  • Desk lamp
  • Traditional alarm clock is required for 9th graders; cellphone alarm does not count
  • Storage crates/bins
  • Power strips with a surge protector (no extension cords)

Other Room Recommendations

(Items you don’t need, but many students like to bring)

  • Window fan (recommended model) and/or floor fan
  • Mirror
  • Only one mini fridge permitted per room, not larger than 3.2 cu. ft.
  • 3M “Command Strips” and hooks
  • Cellphone and charger
  • Swiffer (or similar cleaning tool)
  • Wall decorations (e.g., photos from home, posters, wall hangings, etc.)
  • Rug 
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Sports equipment (Frisbee, golf clubs, tennis/squash racket, ice skates)
  • Umbrella
  • Reusable water bottles
  • Reusable dishes (cup, bowls, plates, utensils)

Toiletries

  • Shower caddy
  • Bath towels
  • Personal toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, razors, etc.)
  • Band-Aids, antiseptic cream
  • Shower shoes/flip-flops
  • Disinfectant wipes 
  • Tissues
  • No over-the-counter medications; some vitamins, etc. are allowed, but must be approved by the Health Center. Students or parents can bring these items to the Health Center for an approved sticker.

Clothing

  • Essential clothing that meets Blair dress code requirements (view dress code information)
  • Athletic wear, including sport equipment
  • Casual wear/comfortable clothing
  • Winter coat, gloves, scarf, winter hat
  • Rain/snow boots

School Supplies*

  • Hand sanitizer 
  • Small whiteboard and dry-erase marker set
  • Binders
  • Notebooks
  • Pens, pencils, highlighters
  • Loose-leaf paper
  • Scissors, tape, paperclips, etc.
  • Computer (view information from the tech office)
  • Backpack/tote bag

What NOT to Bring

  • Halogen lamps 
  • Dartboards
  • Candles, incense, potpourri burners, wax melters
  • Small electric appliances (e.g., coffeemakers, including Keurigs or similar, hot pots, toaster ovens, etc.)
  • Humidifier with any heat-producing element
  • Hoverboards, electric skateboards or electric scooters
  • Space heaters
  • A replacement mattress. Due to fire code regulations, students are required to use the mattress provided by the School.

Each room comes furnished with a twin bed, dresser, desk, chair and closet for each student, and one garbage can.
