Support Blair

Philanthropic Priorities

Blair Academy has a robust history of financial support from alumni, parents and friends. Generous contributions over many generations have strengthened the School and helped make Blair the outstanding educational institution it is today.

Donors support Blair for many reasons and in many ways. We invite you to learn about the School’s philanthropic priorities, each of which helps to sustain the unique student experience that makes a Blair education a lifelong gift.

My family deeply appreciated the financial aid that made it possible for me to attend Blair. I found a safe haven here and a community where I could grow and thrive; I continue to appreciate the fellowship of the School community and many lasting friendships. Blair changed my life, and I give so that other students like me can live their dreams.

The Blair Fund

English class

Benefit to Students:

The Blair Fund strengthens learning opportunities for today’s students. Extracurricular programs, service and leadership opportunities, and scholarship aid are among the everyday, critical needs supported by the Blair Fund.

Financial Objective:

Our goal is to secure $2.6 million by June 30, 2018. In addition to the unrestricted gifts that are so vital to the School’s operation, Blair Fund contributions may also be made to sponsor specific, current program needs, such as individual Skeptics lectures, issues of the Blair Bulletin, athletic team equipment or a theatrical production. All Blair Fund gifts strengthen the Blair experience for today’s students.

Forward Thinking Campaign

Benefit to Students:

Opened in fall 2017, Blair’s Center for Innovation and Collaboration houses enhanced technology, fine art and media classrooms, as well as a laboratory/workshop “maker space.” With flexible common areas configurable for both large group and small, team-centered project work, the building provides optimal venues for cooperative learning and engagement with real-world issues.

Construction of the Chiang Center has already begun to positively impact disciplines across Blair’s curriculum. As a result of the fine arts department’s move to the Chiang Center, Weber Hall was renovated to become the newly centralized home of the math department. Featuring six classrooms, two study areas and a departmental office, the well-designed facility is ideal for the collaborative teaching and learning of math.

With math and technology no longer occupying real estate in Bogle Hall, Blair’s science facility will undergo long-anticipated upgrades—including a three-story addition—designed to enhance and expand the teaching of laboratory sciences. The project is expected to be complete at the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

Financial Objective:

$17 million in gifts or pledges by June 30, 2018

Endowed Scholarships

Endowed Scholarships

Benefit to Students:

The Blair community is immeasurably enriched by students of diverse backgrounds who are able to attend the School with the assistance of scholarship aid. Competitive awards are given to qualified students truly deserving of financial assistance.

Financial Objective:

A named, endowed scholarship can be established with a gift of $100,000. This year, Blair’s 117 named scholarships and four scholars programs, combined with general support from the endowment and the Blair Fund, provided over $6.5 million in scholarship aid to nearly 40 percent of the student body.

General Endowment

Benefit to Students:

We invest unrestricted endowment gifts in our most valuable resources—our teachers, students and campus. These funds allow us to better compensate our outstanding faculty, increase student scholarship aid, and maintain our historic buildings and beautiful grounds.

Financial Objective:

Our goal is to grow our $94 million endowment to over $150 million, so we can become less reliant on tuition for general operating expenses and better secure the School’s financial future.

Athletic Endowments

Athletic Endowment

Benefit to students:

Individual team endowments offer all students the opportunity to participate in athletic training trips, programs and events, regardless of financial ability. Head coaches allocate funds according to the needs of each team with the overall goal of improving the Blair athletic experience for each and every athlete.

Financial Objective:

Over the next several years, our goal is to establish endowments exceeding $100,000 for each of Blair’s 28 varsity athletic teams.
